A Love Story
Both Jacob and Kaitlyn lead active lifestyles and love sports. They met through the ISU intramural leagues. It began with casual swooning while watching each other play, and then eventually playing on the same team. Thank you fate! When the weekly basketball game became the highlight of her week, Kaitlyn found herself thinking about the humorous, supportive, tall prince (I mean guy) Jacob. Kaitlyn was casually dating another guy at the time and when Jacob asked her out, she had to say no! But, she was so impressed by his confidence when he responded to the (momentary) rejection. "He answered in the most professionally, emotionally mature manner that to this day I hope he passes down to our children. He told me after I had to say no, 'That's okay, but if things ever go sideways, keep me in mind because I'd love to eventually take you out.'" And he did get the chance! Their first date was a humorous but memorable mishap with a vintage, t-roof corvette, an unexpected rainstorm, and suspiciously wet pants. Jacob left the date feeling like he had blown it, but he didn't know that Kaitlyn was smitten and couldn't be scared off by a little rain. Proposal When visiting Jacob's family in Florida, they made a suspect stop at a very tall lighthouse with a very tall set of see through stairs. Jacob later admitted that he hoped Kaitlyn's fear of heights would throw her off the scent of a proposal. But here's her side of the story. "I am extremely afraid of heights, so next thing I knew I was practically hyperventilating because the lighthouse was so tall and I hadn't slept much and I was definitely not comfortable. Once we got to the top, I was practically squeezing Jake's hand and arm off because it was so high, I felt dizzy. I was suctioned to the back wall that was furthest from the rail, even though the views were beautiful. Jake walked me around the top, and he appeared very tight and tense. Then, he finally seemed to decide to abruptly stop and looked at me. I definitely knew what was coming, so as soon as he went down onto one knee I let him get the three words out, 'Kaitlyn will you...' before I said 'yes, yes, YES! Now please get me down.' I was so happy and soo terrified at the same time! " Ceremony Jacob and Kaitlyn were married at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church near Driggs, Idaho overlooking the Grand Tetons. The day was gorgeous, clear, and sunny. Even with the hustle of the day, Kaitlyn and Jacob snuck away to see each other for the first time. It was an intimate and romantic moment, just for them. Reception After the ceremony, an outdoor reception was held for friends and family at LaBelle Lake in Rigby, Idaho. Wedding decor was designed by the mother of the groom who used her skills as a florist and driftwood from their hometown to create the most beautiful and sentimental scene. Rexburg Cakes created a beautiful, stunning velvet green tiered cake. The abstract gold details paired with a truly delicious cake, made this cake disappear with happy guests before the night was through. And though she loved the cake, Kaitlyn was really excited for another special treat at the reception. After having been dedicated to a fitness plan before the wedding, she was so thrilled to drink and celebrate. "I grabbed my first Blue Moon and Lena captured that moment of the pure joy of getting to drink a beer on a sunny day at your own wedding, surrounded by family and friends!"

A few weeks before this shoot, my photographer friend, Ashlee Meldrum, and I decided we needed to plan a shoot together. She showed me this perfect location and we both decided it was exactly the look we wanted. Ashlee set off to find a vintage dress, and I worked on securing the other vendors.
I reached out to Mallory (her blog can be found here) and asked if she and Chase would like to work with us. They are very experienced models as of recently and I was so excited when she was able to participate! She and Chase are incredibly kind and genuine people in person as well, so that just made the experience that much better! I am sad they will be moving further away, but I guess that just means I will need to do some shoots with them in Utah! When I told Tiffany (Tiffany by Design) our plans and she was so excited and offered her hair and make-up skills! I absolutely love working with Tiffany! She is so fun and so talented, and one of my preferred vendors. We were a little stumped on florals, as we thought that Ali of Mauloa Florals would be busy. I reached out to her just a week before the shoot and luckily for us, she was able to create this stunning bouquet for the shoot. Ali always makes the most amazing floral creations and I love getting to work with her! Ashlee scored this gorgeous dress for a STEAL of a deal at a thrift shop in Pocatello and it was the perfect fit. Yay for vintage things! The wind was cold, but you all know by now that wind in photos = magic, so we all just embraced it and took breaks in the warm car. I am so happy with how these turned out! I did take a few film photos, so I may make another small post of them when I receive the scans. For now, check out the amazing digital photos! Have you ever considered an in-home or studio session? Whether it be engagements, and anniversary session, or a just-for-fun session, they are always some of my favorites! Being out in nature is wonderful, but there is something so personal and intimate about an in-studio or in-home session, especially when it’s so frigid outside! I loved using this beautiful natural light studio (Aldo Studio in Pocatello, ID). Having a somewhat blank canvas and very little “props” really allowed me to focus on Janessa and Blade and capturing their relationship.
Janessa and Blade have been together for just over one year and are the sweetest couple! They are very comfortable together and their connection is very apparent. Both of them were patient, kind, and flexible. I always love it when my couples are willing to try things that are a little different. I had so much fun finding a variety of angles and poses in a smaller space and watching Janessa and Blade interact naturally. If you’ve ever considered an in-home or studio session but are afraid to go for it, let me know! I would be happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you have. I’m always happy to chat about this or any other session! I'd love to help you decide what type of session is right for you! Hello friends!
Oh man, I am so excited about this shoot I couldn't wait any longer to share! It makes my heart happy to try new things (even if it means being out in the cold and snow...). When I saw that LaBelle Lake was building an ice palace, I decided right then that I needed to shoot there ASAP! I secured the location a week before they opened, but if you've ever set up a styled shoot, you'll know that planning a styled shoot in less than a week can be a challenge. Luckily for me, my sister, Hannah (Miss Bonneville County 2018!), and her boyfriend, Junior, are model status. I knew immediately that I wanted Tiffany to be my hair and make-up artist (check out her work here). I was so excited when she said she was available the day I needed her! She did an incredible job, and made my vision come to life. I highly recommend her if you're looking for someone who is AMAZING at hair and make-up. She is one of the nicest people I've ever met, and so much fun to work with. The evening before the shoot, I was planning on just not having florals, as I knew after asking a few florists that it was too late to order anything. I decided to ask Jessica, owner of Crane Floral on a whim if she had anything left over from that day and could put a few accent colors in for me. To my surprise, she did! She did a fabulous job creating something beautiful unique that really made everything come to life. (Thank you Jessica!!!) When we headed to the location, I knew that snow was in the forecast. Normally, I dread this, but on that day I was REALLY hoping it would just dump on us. About halfway through the shoot, mother nature did not disappoint. The flakes were big and fluffy, and made the shoot even more magical. Take a look at my favorites below! If you want to see the ice palace in person, check out LaBelle Lake's website for hours, pricing, and info! (They light up the palace at night!!) |
